Kuta Sea Turtle Beach Conservation

  • CSR and We ❤ Green

Hi Girls^^ did you know that Kuta Beach is one of the nesting ground of the turtles? This very awesome animal worldwide, six of seven species of the sea turtles that swim the world’s oceans are threatened or endangered largely by the hand of humans. They also face many dangers as they travel the seas from accidental capture, poaching and the lost nesting sites due to the coastal development and beach pollution. In Bali, the Olive Ridley has been coming to Kuta Beach area for centuries to lay their eggs. While kuta beach develops to be the most popular beach in Bali, sea turtle populations have been declining for the past 7 years.

I have very awesome news for you turtle lovers :-) your next visit to Bali will be very interesting. Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation is “the new it place” in Kuta Beach where you can check out turtle eggs and baby turtles in their permanent hatchery facility. From 2002 to 2009 few dedicated individuals led by Agung Ngurah Tresna from Kuta Beach Security and I Wayan Wiradnyana from ProFauna Indonesia have been relocating the turtle eggs to a small concrete sand bunker to improve their chance of survival. As the eggs hatch at the end of their two-month incubation period, the baby turtle are returned to the ocean at the same day. The huge efforts finally got the support that they need; Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) team up with Quiksilver and woalah KBSTC is here for the turtles :-)

Thousands of locals and tourists joined this opening event and were super excited when they got the chance to participate in releasing baby turtles back to the ocean. Balinese dancers and cute kids in their turtle costume entertain all of the people that day at the beach.

With the support from local Balinese authorities,
ProFauna  Indonesia and Bali Forestry, KBSTC is hoping to release over 12 thousand baby sea turtles by end of
2010. Conveniently located at the beachside front of Inna Kuta
Beach Hotel, KBSTC is open to the public free
of charge to enable everyone to participate and experience the joy of
 saving these turtles :-)

Love, Summer ❤
