So relax, lather up that sunscreen and let us help you to some of the most beautiful beaches and surf spots in the world!
ULUWATU
Why don’t we just start with one of the best waves on the island and one of the most talked about spots in the world – Uluwatu! Found on Bali’s southern Bukit Peninsula, Uluwatu is a pretty magical place. Not only is the wave a beautiful left hander but Uluwatu is also known for its many sections, or spots, to surf. A surfer can easily choose a wave (and crowd) that suits him or her best. From the Temples section all the way down to the racetrack, their is something for everyone. You or your friends not here to surf? Its okay! Uluwatu offers such beautiful scenery, fun beaches and refreshing tidepools to swim and check out all the great surfing action. No matter who you are, this place is unforgettable and is definitely on our “must see” list!
The Wave:
Now don’t get us wrong girls, Uluwatu is a heavy wave and is recommended for advanced surfers only. Surfer Girl suggests that you are aware of your surfing level and personal limits. But there are times when the wave is not as heavy and becomes more user friendly. Uluwatu on a high tide and a small swell can offer some fun, more mellow waves. As the tide begins to drop, though, is when the wave becomes more fast, punchy, and altogether more dangerous. It all just depends on what you’re looking for. The best time to catch fun waves at Ulus is on a mid to low tide. Thats when the waves start to really crank, and you and your buddies can find fun waves, and barrels, from the peak to the racetrack.
On a big swell, you can find guys riding Uluwatu at 10 to 12 feet, and its such an amazing sight! At that size Uluwatu’s outside corner begins to break, and you can catch great surfers taking off on waves the size of buildings! If you happen to be here and a swell shows up like this, come out to Uluwatu and check out the action. I still remember the first time I saw Ulus on a day like that. The pictures of guys dropping into waves so big, I was scared just to watch it, are still etched in my mind. It’s a really an unforgettable sight.
Where to Relax:
So you’ve surfed all day with your girlfriends, and you’re ready to relax. Well, Uluwatu is great for its many variety of warungs (small restaurants) that can be found perched on it’s cliffs. If you’re hungry, head over to The Surfers Warung. They have a great menu of Asian and Western food that is sure to satisfy any hungry surfer girl.
At low tide, the caves and beaches at Uluwatu turn into a beautiful swimming pool that is great to cool off in. If you happen to be down at the Ulus at low tide, head down to the beach with some goggles or a good book and slip away into the quiet little sanctuary of cliffs and caves to relax.
At the end of the day, if you and your crew are looking for a good place to enjoy a cold drink or sit down for a nice dinner, there are tons of places like this to be found here. For a nice drink and a great place to watch the sunset, head over to The Edge. The Edge serves the coldest drinks at Ulus and is the best place to watch the sun slowly fade away.
Want to find a nice place for dinner? great restaurants like Uluwatu Cafe’, Junior’s, or YeYe’s are all close to the beach and all offer tasty, yet affordable food.
So now you have all the goods to head down to Uluwatu and have a memorable time. We’ll see you next time with our next Surfer Girl Bali Surf Check!
Love, Summer ❤
